How an offline-first app works in the real world.

The Challenge

The business buys wet cocoa beans from local farmers. The purchasing agents travel to remote wards where there is absolutely no mobile internet. Historically, they relied on paper ledgers and cashbooks. Receipts got lost, handwriting was hard to read, and reconciling the day's cash outflow against the wet beans purchased took the accountant hours every evening.

The Solution

We built a lightweight, custom PWA installed directly onto the purchasing agents' Android tablets.

A Typical Workday with the App

  • 8:00 AM:Deep in the Field (No Internet): The purchasing agent meets with a local farmer. They open the app on their tablet, which loads instantly despite having zero network bars.
  • 8:15 AM:Instant Calculation & Recording: The agent selects the farmer's profile, inputs the weight of the wet beans, and the app automatically calculates the exact cash payout based on the day's locked-in rate. The transaction is saved locally on the device, and a digital receipt is generated.
  • 2:00 PM:Tracking Inventory: As the truck fills up, the agent uses the app to log the total batches of wet beans heading back to the fermentary for processing and drying. All of this is still completely offline.
  • 5:00 PM:Returning to Town (Auto-Sync): The agent drives back into a coverage zone. The moment the tablet detects a 3G or 4G connection, the app silently springs to life in the background. It securely pushes every transaction, farmer profile update, and inventory log to the company's secure cloud database.
  • 5:05 PM:The CPA's View: Back at the main office, the business owner and the accountant open their dashboard. They instantly see the exact amount of cash spent, the exact volume of wet beans purchased, and the data is perfectly formatted for statutory compliance and tax reporting. No data entry required. No lost paper.
